Garage Door Opener Repairs FAQs

Being as your garage door is the largest and heaviest piece of moving equipment in your home, you should have your garage door opener serviced at least once a year. Having professional preventative maintenance done by Mo Better Garage will ensure that everything is in proper working order and help prevent potential issues. Having your garage door opener serviced will also greatly increase its lifespan.

The door may be disengaged. Check to be sure that the red emergency release cord hasn’t been pulled. If this is the culprit, re-engage the carriage. How to re-engage the carriage depends on the model. See your owner’s manual for more details.

If your garage door isn’t opening when pressing the button, make sure the opener is connected to power. Try plugging something else like a lamp into the outlet that the opener is plugged into. If that fails to resolve the issue, next, check the fuse box or circuit breaker. If this still does not work, make sure that you have disabled any locks on your garage door. If none of these suggestions are able to successfully troubleshoot the issue, you will have to call Mo Better Garage to have a technician come out and diagnose the issue.

Programming your garage door opener depends on the brand and model, but here’s a general step-by-step guide that works for most systems:

  1. Locate the “Learn” Button:
On most garage door openers (like LiftMaster, Chamberlain, or Genie), you’ll find a “Learn” or “Program” button on the back or side of the motor unit hanging in your garage. You may need to remove a light cover to access it.

  2. Press the “Learn” Button:
Press and release the “Learn” button. The indicator light will turn on (or blink), giving you about 30 seconds to sync your remote.

  3. Press the Remote Button:
Within that 30-second window, press and hold the button on your remote that you want to program. Hold it until the opener light flashes or you hear a click—that means it’s been successfully programmed.

  4. Test the Remote:
Press the remote again to make sure the door opens and closes properly.

Need Help?

If you’re having trouble, your opener may require a different process—or the remote might need to be reset. That’s where Mo Better Garage comes in. We can program your garage door opener, install new remotes, or troubleshoot issues quickly and professionally. Serving homeowners across Georgia and Florida, we’re just a call away.

Resetting your garage door opener can help resolve issues like unresponsive remotes, syncing problems, or security concerns. Here’s a general guide that works for most standard garage door openers:

To Reset the Opener System:

  1. Locate the “Learn” or “Program” Button:
This button is usually found on the back or side of the motor unit (the box hanging from your garage ceiling). You may need to remove a light cover to see it.

  2. Press and Hold the “Learn” Button:
Hold the button down for about 6 to 10 seconds, or until the indicator light turns off. This will erase all programmed remotes and keypads from the opener’s memory.

  3. Reprogram Your Remotes:
Once the memory is cleared, you’ll need to reprogram your remotes and wireless keypads. To do this:

    • Press the “Learn” button again (this time just once).

    • Then press and hold the remote button you want to pair.

    • When the opener light flashes or you hear a click, it means the remote is synced.
